The Peoples Kenpo Karate Association (PKKA) is dedicated to teaching the martial art techniques and high ethical standards of Sensei Cecil Peoples.

Sensei Cecil Peoples and Sensei Bill Ryusaki

Sensei Peoples has been training in the Martial Arts for more than 30 years.  He received his first degree black belt in 1970.  Sensei was promoted by Bill Ryusaki to 10th degree black belt in 2006.

Sensei Peoples is one of the most respected names in kickboxing and karate.  Over the years he has trained with many renowned martial artists such as Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, Mike Stone, Sensei Bill Ryusaki, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Peter "Sugar Foot" Cunningham, Don "the Dragon" Wilson, Kathy Long, Maurice Smith, and many more.

Sensei Peoples has left his mark on the martial arts world.  Beyond being a legendary martial artist, Sensei Peoples has been an outstanding role model.  Sensei's honesty, integrity and humanity are the other aspects that are taught by the Peoples Kenpo Karate association.

Peoples Kenpo Karate was founded on the principles of teaching excellence, personal attention and tradition, we provide you with the most complete and effective methods to reach your full potential.

We teach self defense skills and the complete personal development of each student. Individual attention is a feature of each and every class, allowing Peoples Kenpo Karate students to progress quickly and easily toward their personal goals. Our instructors take seriously their responsibility as role models for younger students, teaching importance of strong character, leadership and good values.

The differences in Martial Arts styles are vast. They vary in the mental philosophy and the physical approach. Even within the same system there can be drastic differences because of the individual personalities of the instructors.

The style we teach is know as Hawaiian Kenpo Karate. It is a self-defense-based system. This may sound redundant but actually there are many Martial Arts styles currently being taught that have little to do with actual self-defense. Some styles are strictly taught for competition.

Karate is a Japanese word meaning, "Empty Hand". Kenpo translated is: "Way of the Fist" or "Law of the Fist".

Sensei Bill Ryusaki is the 10th degree master of our system. Sensei Cecil Peoples is the highest ranking student at 8th degree. Sensei Chuck Cordova is Sensei Cecil's highest ranking student at 6th degree.

The tradition of Kenpo Karate is extremely different than most Martial Arts. The tradition of most other systems has been to keep their system "pure" or without change. Sensei Chuck has often had conversations with "Traditional" instructors who will attempt to argue that to change their system from what has been done the same for centuries would weaken it and be an insult to their forefathers. Sensei Chuck's counter has always been that at some point in every style practitioners were all very open minded to change and innovation. If they weren't their particular style would never have evolved from a sloppy street fighting mentality to whatever precision techniques it now has today.

The Peoples Kenpo Karate Association stresses the importance of gaining knowledge in all the different ranges of self-defense. A self-defense situation can present itself at long, medium or close range. You could be on your feet or on the ground. Most situations will actually pass through several of these ranges. Sensei Chuck has seen and been a part of many changes in our Kenpo system over the years. What he teaches his students today is very different than what he learned as a beginning student 20 plus years ago. What Sensei Cecil Peoples (Sensei Chuck's instructor) teaches today is also very different than what he taught 20 years ago. To remain stagnant is to fall behind. Our students today learn all the kicks being taught in most kicking systems. The in close hand skills Kenpo is known for. Takedowns and sweeps from Sensei Bill's Judo background. The boxing and kickboxing skills brought to our system by Sensei Cecil. The ground skills of Jui-Jitsu introduced into the system by Sensei Chuck and the Stick fighting system of Doce Pares being taught by Guro Steve Wolk.
